William Landon Dunn, age 73 of Southside, was called home to be with his Lord and Savior on August 6, 2013. A Celebration of Life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Friday, August 9, 2013 at Rye's Chapel United Methodist Church with Rev. Melvin Brooks and Rev. Bob Hargrove officiating. Burial will follow in Rye's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Thursday and on Friday 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home.
Landon Dunn entered this life on June 15, 1940, son of the late Dailey Edison Dunn and Margaret Sanders Dunn. He was a tobacco, soybean, cattle farmer, and a logger. He received numerous awards in the field of Agriculture including the 1976 Clarksville Jaycees Young Farmer of the Year. He coached baseball and softball for Montgomery Central Little League for twenty-two years. He led his teams to numerous District 9 titles as well as the 1984 Tennessee State Big League Baseball Champions and the 1988 Tennessee State Big League Softball Champions. He served many years as President of Montgomery Central Little League, Montgomery Central Elementary PTA, and Montgomery Central High School Booster Club. He was an avid deer and turkey hunter that loved sharing his stories with his friends at Southside General Store. He was a lifelong member of Rye's Chapel United Methodist Church. Above all, he was an extremely devoted and loving husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers, Dan H. Dunn and Martin T. Dunn.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Joyce Richardson Dunn; brother, Mike (Devona) Dunn of Clarksville; sister, Virginia (Larry) Gantt of Hartsville, SC; sister-in-law, Nancy Payne Dunn of Hartsville, SC; children, Kimberly (LaMont) Trotter, Todd (Jan) Dunn, Cary (Kelly) Dunn, Marcie Dunn, Stacie Dunn; grandchildren, Cody Dunn, Sarah Dunn, Jessica Trotter, Megan Dunn, Matthew Trotter, Dailey Dunn; great-grandchild, Abbigail Dunn.
Pallbearers will be Cody Dunn, Sarah Dunn, Jessica Trotter, Megan Dunn, Matthew Trotter, Dailey Dunn, Craig Gallivan, Daniel Dunn, Brian Dunn, Bobby Richardson, Scotty Richardson, Mark Dunn, Matthew Dunn and Natt Gantt. Honorary pallbearers will be Buddy Grimes, Steve Shelton, Burney Wall, Allen Swaw, George Moore, C.B. Black, and Billy Sigears.
