William Dowdy

William Russell (Bill) Dowdy, 83, Clarksville, died Sunday, November 29, 2009, at Gateway Medical Center. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. William Russell (Bill) Dowdy passed away November 29, 2009 from the arms of his loving family to the loving arms of HIS LORD. He was born July 19, 1926 in Carlisle, Stewart County TN to the late Charles Franklin and Pearl Dowdy. He was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Melanie Dowdy Ward. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Smith Dowdy, a son, William (Pat) Dowdy; grandchildren, Laurie Dowdy Sahr Stewart, Shannon Patrick Dowdy; great-grandchildren, Jordan Ward, Ryan Ward, Sheldon Ward, Devon Sahr and Derrick Sahr.
Mr. Dowdy proudly served in the United States Army in the Korean War. He was also honored to be a member of the Queen City Masonic Lodge, a Shriner of the Al Menah Temple, Nashville, TN and a member of the National Rifle Association for many years. He was a faithful member of the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church, former employee of Frosty Morn Meats and rertired from the Zinc Plant (formerly known as Jersey Miniere Zinc Plant of Clarksville). He loved his family and his Lord Jesus Christ dearly. He was an accomplished singer, loved by many and will be deeply missed, NEVER to be forgotten.
Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M., Tuesday at Sykes Funeral Home and from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. Wednesday at the Bethel Cumberland Presbyterian Church. The
