Wayne Sinks

d. April 20, 2015

On April 20, 2015, Wayne “Coach” Sinks, 67, went to be with his Lord after a sudden illness. Sykes Funeral Home is handling arrangements. Visitation will be at Sykes from 4-8:00pm, Friday, April 24, and from 11am until the service at noon, Saturday, April 25, at the Clarksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church where Wayne and Judi are members. Pastor Steve Louder will be officiating with Rev. E.G. Sims. Pallbearers are Harold Hensley, Ted Haley, Gene Jackson, John Evans, Joe Douglas, Tim Sims, and Jim Ellis.

Wayne was a graduate of Clarksville High School. After his service in the Army, he attended Austin Peay State University. He was a teacher in Montgomery County for 26 years and served as head baseball and football assistant coach for Northeast High School and New Providence Middle School. He always cared about his students, players, and sports and was known widely as “tough, but fair.” He also served as a basketball referee for the TSSAA. After his retirement from teaching, Wayne served as a course marshal for Eastland Green golf course – a job he took seriously.  It gave him great joy. Eager to play 18 holes and participate in tournaments, “The Game” was his passion, exceeded only by his love of family. His many golfing buddies became like family and gave him much happiness.

Born July 20, 1947, in Clarksville, Wayne was preceded in death by his parents, Howard F. Sinks, his mother, Jane Sinks, and brother, Michael Sinks.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 43 years, Judith Hurst Sinks, his daughter Anessa (Bill), and grandchildren, Annalyse and Will Powell of Cincinnati, Ohio, and his sister, Sandra (Bob) Fladry of Clarksville. He also has one niece, Kimberly (Taylor) Beals, and two nephews, Robb (Shelley) Fladry of Denver, Colorado, and Derrick (Melissa) Hurst of Lawrence, Kansas.

Known as “Pop Pop” to his beloved grandchildren, Wayne was a unique personality that many knew and loved.  His refuge and comfort were always his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. He will be remembered for having a laughter that was quick and infectious with friends and strangers alike. The family has requested in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Clarksville Cumberland Presbyterian Church Building Fund or the Brain Injury Association of Tennessee (www.braininjurytn.org).
