Verna Jean Jackson
August 17, 1954 — August 23, 2015
On August 23, 2015, Ms. Verna Jean Windon Jackson departed this earth in Clarksville Tennessee, after her long battle with ovarian cancer, at the age of 61. Born August 17, 1954, in Jackson, Mississippi to Vernon and Nellie Windon, she spent the majority of her years residing in Los Angeles, California.
Jean, as she was called by most, met and married Michael A. Jackson after a long courtship. She then relocated to Clarksville, Tennessee to begin her new life as a Military wife and family advocate. Once she settled in Tennessee, Jean continued to touch lives by building new relationships and always giving "motherly" advice to Military soldiers, their families, and people she came in contact with. Jean will be especially remembered for her words of wisdom, generosity, quick wit, spirit of adventure, and the tenacity that allowed her to capture the hearts of everyone she met.
Jean was preceded in death by her father, Vernon Windon, and most recently by her mother, Nellie Windon on September 30, 2014; her only son, Shadeed Hammond, who passed away October 3, 2012.
Survivors include her loving husband, Michael A. Jackson; blended children, Michael N. Jackson, Jalisa (Claye) Moore, and Amelia Jackson, all of Clarksville, TN; brothers, Carl and Wallace Windon, of Los Angeles, CA; devoted uncle, Ivory (Debra) Bogan of Terry, MS; a special aunt, Ruby (Willie) Summers of Jackson, MS; brothers-in-law, Barry E. Roland of Rapid City, SD; Gregory (Juanita) Dickinson of Mobile, AL; sisters-in-law, Antoinette (Areantenis) France of Decatur, GA and Felicia C. Jackson of St. Louis, MO; special nephew, Michael Windon; special niece, Shanell (Leon) Hall , both of Los Angeles, Ca.; special cousins, Henrietta Mangum and Delzola Landing of Georgetown, MS, Bobbie Hooks (Bob) and Kimberly (Phillip) Jefferson of Los Angeles, Ca.
Jean maintained very close and meaningful relationships with nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends in Los Angeles, CA; Jackson, MS; Georgetown, MS; Wichita, KS; Atlanta GA; and various other areas throughout the United States.
