Truman Wood

SFC (Ret) Truman D. Wood, Sr. `Woody`, 79, Clarksville, died Sunday, December 12, 2010, at his home. The funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. Wednesday at Apostolic Faith Tabernacle with Rev. Ricky Reynolds, Rev. Jack B. Batson and Rev. John Black officiating. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and from 9:00 a.m. until the time of service Wednesday at the church. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. Mr. Wood was born October 13, 1931 in Thompkinsville, KY, son of the late Druie Ray and Nell Carter Wood. Also, preceded death by his mother-in-law Beatrice Groves. He served in the US Army for 21 years, during that time he served in Korea, Japan, and two tours in Vietnam. He loved fishing, hunting, and cherished every moment with family and friends. Survived by his loving wife and best friend Lucy J. Wood. His sons are Anthony Ray (Debbie) Wood, Truman D. (Karla) Wood, Jr, and Charles E.(Sherri) Wood. Daughters are Nora W. (Timmy) Ashby, and Diane W. (Randle) Turner. He has twelve grandchildren Jennifer W. Hood, Anthony Ray Wood, II, Heather (Daniel) Shumake, Brandon (Ashley) Ashby, Miranda Ashby, Kristi Griffin, Janise Brock, April Wood, Samantha Wood, David Wood, Jessica Wood and Rachel Wood. His great grandchildren are Blake Hood, Carilynn Hood, Raylee Wood, Natalee Wood, Brennyn Shumake, Colton Griffin, Ashlee Griffin, Aylivia Griffin and Trevor Brock. Other survivors include a sister Dana (Ted) Polland of Glasgow, KY, and two brothers Benny (Janice) Wood, and Adam Wood both of Thompkinsville, KY. Family and friends will serve as pallbearers.
