SSG Lyle Marlin Christy, Sr. ARMY (Ret)

A graveside service for SSG Lyle Marlin Christy, Sr., ARMY (Ret), age 85, will be Monday, August 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West. He passed away on Sunday, August 6, 2023 with family and friends present. He was born on May 13, 1938 in Apollo, Pennsylvania to Robert and Mary Christy. 

At the age of four the family moved to Berrien Springs, MI. After graduation he joined the Army, serving from 1957 to 1977. He spent two tours in Vietnam, and in Korea as well as Germany. He was also stationed at many bases state side and Hawaii. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Army Commendation Medal, Good Conduct Medal (5th AWD), Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal W/DVC 60, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry w/ Palm, Purple Heart, Combat Infantryman Badge, Air Medal, Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry Unit Citation (3rd AWD), Bronze Star Medal W/V Device, Presidential Unit Citation. He was a member of the Order of the Purple Heart #457, 1st Cav Association, 7th Cav Association, VVA, VFW 4895, 11th Air Assault and DAV #101.

 He is preceded in death by his parents, a wife, brother, three older sisters, and two grandsons. He leaves behind his wife, Maryanna Christy, sister, Darlene Carpenter, daughters, Paula Rockinger, Tammy Kelly, Colleen Bradley Kelley, Agatha Shelton, Melinda Macdade, Mary Jo Bridges, sons, Lyle M. Christy Jr., Robert Christy and Michael Fuller, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren as well as many friends. 

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to the American Heart Association.
