SFC (Ret.) Joseph L. `Monty` Montoya, 79, Clarksville, died Friday, September 11, 2009, at Blanchfield Army Community Hospital. A funeral mass will be held at 9:00 a.m. Friday at St. Michael Catholic Church with Father David Kennedy officiating.
Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full Military Honors. Visitation will be from 4:30 p.m. til 6:30 p.m. Thursday at Sykes Funeral Home.
A Rosary Service will be held 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. Mr. Montoya was born March 20, 1930 in Fountain, Colorado. He was the son of the late Leopoldo and Eva Perea Montoya.
SFC (Ret) Montoya was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the 11th Airborne Division, 82nd Airborne Division, 101st Airborne Division, 5th Special Forces Group and formerly served as the Honorary CSM of the 320th Field Artillery. During his military career he was awarded the Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster and the National Defense Metal with Oak Leaf Cluster. He was also the former Secretary-Treasurer of Veterans Transportation and a member of St. Michael Catholic Church. Mr. Montoya is survived by his wife Sue Montoya, sons; Damian and wife Lydia Montoya of Murfreesboro, Joey Montoya of Soddy-Daisy, daughters; Maria Montoya and husband Douglas Nelson of Clear Lake, Iowa and Laurie Montoya of Clarksville; four grandaughters; Cassandra, Sammy, Emily and Olivia; brothers; James Montoya, Florencio Montoya, Steven Perea and sisters; Laura Valdez and Carmen Maestas all of Colorado Springs, Colorado. The Military will serve as Pallbearers.
