SFC (Ret) James R. Eley passed away at home peacefully in Clarksville on Tuesday, February 18, 2014. Sykes Funeral Home and Crematory in is charge of arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held at 12:00 p.m. on Tuesday March 4, 2014 at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West.
He was born in Petersburg, VA on May 31, 1936 to the late Rowland S. and Christle B. Eley of Petersburg. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ralph R. Eley.
He served 20 years in the US Army and retired with the rank of SFC.
He is survived by his loving and caring wife of 51 years, Ursula Eley and six children, Diana Reyes of Hagatna, Guam, Robert (Amy) Eley of Clarksville, Karen Carte (Ronnie Doxtater) of Clarksville, Angie (Jane) Warner of Melbourne, FL, Wayne (Doris) Bristow of Colonial Heights, VA, Debbie (Steve) Mano of Viejo, CA; three sisters, Christle (Francis) Bishop of Ford, VA, Jacklyn (Henry) Owen, Jeanette Eley of Dinwiddie, VA; brother, Donald (Sandra "Sam") Eley of Church RD, VA; sister-in-law, Jean Eley of Sutherland VA; 11 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be to the Alzheimer's Association or the Wounded Warrior Project, Inc.
