Sam A. Salerno, age 93 passed away Feb. 21, 2012 at Gateway Medical Center. Visitation will be Sunday Feb. 26, 2012 from 5:00 p.m. till 7:00 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home. Funeral services will be Monday, Feb. 27, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. at the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with Father Eric Folwkes officiating, burial will follow at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery with full military honors.
Mr. Salerno was born Oct. 20, 1918 in Omaha Nebraska., son of the late Santoro Salerno and Angelina Gibiltera Salerno. He was preceded in death by his wife Laura Lanahan Salerno.
Mr. Salerno was a retired Lt. Col. with 22 years service in the US Army. He was the former Clarksville Police Chief, Assistant Field Director for the American Red Cross, a member of the Board of Directors and past Chairman of the Ft. Campbell Credit Union with 30 years service; four time past NCAA Championship Wrestler. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and the Clarksville Rotary Club and had attended the University of Nebraska.
He is survived by his children, daughter, Barbara Salerno, son Sam Joseph (Rosemary) Salerno, son, Richard T. (Betsy) Salerno, son, Charles James (Diane) Salerno, and daughter, Susan Elizabeth (Lindsey) Stephens; One sister Josephine Malone; 13 Grandchildren and 7 Great-Great Grandchildren and 1 Great-Great Grand Child
Pallbearers will be James, John, Daniel, Samuel, Stephen Salerno and Matthew Stephens
