Sam Joseph Salerno, age 70, passed away Sept. 19, 2013 due to an extended battle with cancer, surrounded by family. A celebration of life for Sam Salerno will be 2:00 pm Monday, Sept. 23, 2013 at Immaculate Conception Church, 709 Franklin St., Clarksville. Family will receive friends from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Sunday, Sept. 22, 2013 at Sykes Funeral Home. Mr. Salerno was born June 23, 1943 in Omaha, NE to the late Sam A. and Laura Lanahan Salerno.
Mr. Salerno entered the United States Army in 1962 serving his country in Turkey. Returning home, he earned his Bachelors Degree in Business from APSU and later earned his Masters Degree from MTSU. While attending Austin Peay, he began working at Jim Ayers Volkswagen. There he purchased his first new car, 1967 VW Bug, which he still owns and is having restored. He worked for many years in contract sales for Sears before becoming an Industrial Engineer working as a management analyst for the Federal Government.
He is survived by his loving wife of 45 years, Rosemary Gaisser Salerno, son, John (Tracy) Salerno, grandchildren, Ashley, Michael, and Dustin Salerno, great-grandchild, Izabella, daughter, Laura (Michael Scott) Thornton, grandchildren, Thomas and Shelby Thornton, brothers, Richard (Betsy) Salerno, of Clarksville, Charles (Diane) Salerno, of Littleton, CO, sisters, Barbara Salerno and Susan (Lindsey) Stephens both of Clarksville.
