Robert Overton

Robert W. Overton, age 82 of Clarksville, passed away on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Gateway Medical Center.
The funeral will be November 9, 2015 at 11 a.m., at Sykes chapel, with Dr. Larry Robertson officiating. Burial will follow at Greenwood Cemetery with full military honors.
Visitation will be Sunday, November 8, 2015 from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and Monday, November 9, 2015 from 10 a.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.
Bob was born February 1, 1933 in Brooklyn, New York, the son of Benny Overton and Margurite Overton. He was preceded in death by his father and mother; his brother, Elwyn Gerstein; and sisters, Carol Worthy and Marcia Dodge; and his wife of 41 years Susie Overton.
He is survived by his wife, Rebecca Lehman Overton; son, Buford (Pete) Overton; stepson, Richard Brittain; grandsons, Chad and Tyler Overton; sister, Joyce Polk; and brother, William Gerstein.
Bob retired from the United States Army and Civil Service. He also worked at Frosty Morn. His military awards include Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Army Commendation Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Combat Infantry Badge, National Defense Service Medal with Oak Leaf Cluster, Meritorious Unit Citation, Bronze Star Medal, Master Parachutists Badge, Good Conduct Medal with five loops.
Bob was a catholic, he was a member of the APSU Governors Club, VFW Post 4895, the Retired Enlisted Association, United States Bowling Congress, and a Kentucky Colonel.
Military personnel will serve as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hilldale Baptist Church Building Fund, or St. Jude's Children's Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
