Rinaldo “Rennie” Anthony Caira II died Thursday at age 85 at Saint Thomas West, Nashville, TN, surrounded by family.
Rinaldo was a proud U.S. Marine. In his civilian life, he worked for Wonder Bread and retired from Hostess Cake Co. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Clarksville, TN.
Rinaldo was a proud husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. In his spare time, he enjoyed working outside and took great pride in his lawn and garden. His favorite hobby was
fishing with his sons and grandsons but his goal was to catch more fish than them. One particular fishing story began as a competition between him and his sons, David and Anthony.
Mid-trip, Anthony’s hook caught his father’s lip. Rinaldo was so angry that he wasn’t winning the competition so he refused to quit fishing. David cut the line and Rinaldo continued fishing with a hook in his lip! The boys laughed so hard that they didn’t have to “weigh that one” (Rinaldo). He refused to let them drive him to the ER and drove himself, hooked lip and all.
Although Rinaldo had a tough, Italian exterior, he had the heart and strength of a hero! Once he literally pulled the ladder loose from the cement wall of a hotel pool, to save his daughter’s best friend from drowning, while trapped. He will always be remembered as a giant, in the eyes of his family.
