Ray Runyon Butts, age 89, of Clarksville, passed away Tuesday, September 13, 2011 at Gateway Medical Center. Funeral Services will be held 2:00 P.M. today at Sykes Funeral Home with Dr. Roger Freeman and Rev. Landon Meadow officiating. Visitation will be 12:00 P.M. until hour of service at the Funeral Home. Burial will be in Woodlawn Baptist Church Cemetery. Sykes Funeral Home and Crematory, Inc. is in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Butts was born January 27, 1922 in Stewart County, TN to the late Lurton Lee and Myrtle Austin Butts. He was also preceded in death by daughter, Rae Ann Butts and sister, Virgie Lee Allison.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Ruth Bumpus Butts; daughter, Michele Butts; brother, Lurton Butts, Jr. and sister, Margie Swift.
He was devoted to his family, his friends, his church and his community. He loved hunting and fishing with family and friends. He enjoyed playing pool at the Senior Citizens Club where he frequently won tournaments. As a local businessman he managed the Bright Leaf Warehouse and was co-owner of the White House Dairy Freeze.
For approximately twenty years of his career he was store and credit manager of the Montgomery County Farmers Co-op. He was a longtime member of the Moss_
