Funeral service for Philip Carter Horsey, age 76 of Clarksville, will be Sunday, July 30, 2017, at 3:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Louise United Methodist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 11:00 AM to 3:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home.

Philip Horsey, "Coach" to all that loved him, died peacefully in his sleep on Thursday July 27, 2017.  He was born on March 19, 1941 in Salisbury, MD to Melvin and Rosetta "Toots" Horsey. Philip lived life by example. Humble, caring, giving, kind, honest and, most of all, loving were virtues that molded his life and that he shared with all that were fortunate to know him.

Coach Horsey was a Vietnam veteran, volunteering to fight for his country. He served in the elite 101st/173rd Army Airborne division "Screaming Eagles", where he was credited with 96 jumps and several accommodations. He was a member of the Masonic Lodge. Coach Horsey was a graduate of Austin Peay State University earning his Bachelor, Masters in Education and EDS degrees. Coach Horsey loved to teach but his passion was coaching football and track.  He taught at Montgomery Central his entire career and was the founder of the football and track programs at the school.  He designed and was instrumental in building the MCHS stadium that held his name and is still being used today.
He coached state champions in track and was named conference coach of the year several times during his football coaching tenure.

He is survived by his loving wife of 52 years, Linda Horsey , sons; Andrew (Jennifer Horsey, and Matthew (Niki)Horsey, and five grandchildren.

Coach Horsey, Dad, Pop Pop, Phil, will be greatly missed but his family takes pride in the fact that his legacy of kindness, giving and inspirational fortitude will help guide his family and friends for generations to come.
