Norman Francis McWhorter, 81, Clarksville, died Wednesday, June 23, 2010, at Gateway Medical Center. The funeral will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Roger Freeman officiating. Burial will be in Gum Springs Baptist Church Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m Friday and from 12:00 noon until the time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
Mr. McWhorter was born January 7, 1929 in Montgomery County, son of the late George W. and Ora Lee Trotter McWhorter. He was preceded in death by his brothers Wilson, J.D., Ray, William and Russell McWhorter, and his sister Marie Winsett. Mr. McWhorter retired from the U.S. Postal Service, and was a member of First Baptist Church. He is survived by his wife of sixty years Lometa Biter McWhorter; son Dwight (Nancy) McWhorter; daughter Debbie McWhorter Smith and his brother Dudley (Claudean) McWhorter. Also survived by his sisters Etta (Charlie) Dean, Mary (Bobby) Huggins, and Lucy Fischer. His grandchildren are Chad McWhorter, Charlsie (Tarpon) Wiseman, Bradley (Sheri) Smith and Claire Smith. Great grandchildren are Rex and Russ Wiseman. Pallbearers will be Chad McWhorter, Bradley Smith, Charlie Dean, Marshall Biter, Bill McWhorter, Steve McWhorter and Tommy McWhorter. Honorary pallbearers will be Richard Lock, Denzil Biter, Billy Smith and Buster McWhorter.
