Nelson Joseph Castro, age 85 of Woodlawn, passed away Friday, January 9, 2015 at Gateway Medical Center. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. A Memorial Service will be held 2 p.m. on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel. A gathering of family and friends will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of the service at the Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 14, 2015.
Mr. Castro was born on June 16, 1929 in New York, NY to the late Balbino and Panchita Martinez Castro. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Michele Sojo. He was a Traffic Manager in the Textile Industry and served in the US Army.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Debbie Gonzalez Castro; sons, Nelson Wayne (Cathy) Castro, Mark (Mary) Castro; daughter, Leslie (Bobby) Whittenburg; sister, Frances Castro; 8 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren.
