Mildred "Nana" Shumate
Mildred A. Shumate was taken to heaven on September 27, 2013 from her residence. "But as for me, my contentment is not in wealth but in seeing you and knowing all is well between us. And when I awake in heaven, I will be fully satisfied, for I will see you face to face. Psalms 17:15
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm Sunday, September 29, 2013 at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Louie Montoya and Rev. David Summerville officiating. Visitation will be held from 2:00 pm until 7:00 pm on Saturday, September 28th and from 12:00 pm until the hour of service on Sunday.
Mildred Shumate was born on March 31, 1923 in Meridian, MS. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis W. Shumate; son, Bobby O'Neal Shumate, and great-grandson Timmy Vasil. She was also preceded in death by her parents and five siblings. She proudly served her Lord and Savior at First Assembly of God, Clarksville. Here she had been the coordinator of the 4 & 5 year old Sunday School Dept. for the past 38 years. She was also in the quilting club. She was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking for her family and friends.
She is survived by her daughter, Janice Zirkenbach of Chattanooga, TN; four grandchildren, Jason (Beth) Vasil of Newport, PA, Jon (Amanda) Vasil, Jena (Ron) Watts, Pamela (Steven) Devers all of Clarksville. Eight great-grandchildren Alisha, Allen, Ashley, Kurtis, Andrew, Amber, Tiffany, Paul and Sara; Four great-great-grandchildren, Brennen, Jayce, Kinsley, and Rowan.
Pallbearers are Kenneth Adock, Hillary Lewis, Mike Lerman, J.R. Kelly, David Perdue and Mike Reed. Honorary pallbearer will be Mike Moskalyk.
Mildred "Nana" Shumate's loving and kind spirit will live on in our hearts and she will be so terribly missed. A very special "Thank You" to Dr. Paul Cha and staff, Rohit Patel and staff, Dr. William DeVries and Staff, Gateway Medical Center 5th floor nurses, Gateway Home Health & Hospice.
