Mattie Lehman

A funeral service for Mattie Katherine (Austin) Lehman will be at 1:00PM on Thursday, March 28th, 2019 at Sykes Funeral Home with burial to follow in Smith-Austin Cemetery with Pastor Riley “David” Arms officiating. The family will receive friends from Noon until the time of service. Mattie was born August 16th, 1927 in Stewart Co. Tennessee to parents Lacy Talmadge Austin and Annie Robbie (Halliday) Austin. Mattie was the fifth of seven children to this union and passed away at her home in Travis Co., Austin, Texas with her daughter and Steve Brock by her side at 12:00 noon, March 24th, 2019. She grew up in Oakwood, Tennessee, met and married Denny Lee Lehman of Indian Mound, Tennessee, on September 6th, 1946. To this union was begot son Wayne Lee, daughter Sheila Dianne, sons Kenneth Doyle, and James Randel. Mattie was homemaker. Denny and Mattie accepted Jesus Christ in 1957 and were members of Oakwood Baptist Church.
They moved to Polk Co., Des Moines, Iowa in 1960 and there raised their family. In 1981, Denny, Mattie, and James moved to Austin, Texas to be closer to sons Wayne and Kenneth and Mattie’s brother, Lacy.
Mattie was preceded in death by her parents, husband Denny Lee Lehman, son Kenneth Doyle Lehman, Grandson Galen Ray St. John, sister Ethelene Rittenberry, brother-in-law Floyd Rittenberry, sister Carline Page, sister Maggie Wallace, brother-in-law J.D. Wallace, and brothers Douglass and Hubert Austin.
Left to cherish her memory are son Wayne and wife, Janie Lehman of Kyle, Texas, daughter Sheila and husband Doyle R. St. John of Canton, Texas, son James of Austin, Texas, brother Lacy and wife Patty Austin, of Bastrop, Texas, and brother-in-law Ralph Page, of Des Moines, Iowa. Mattie had 10 grandchildren, 25 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great-grandchildren, friend Steve Brock of Austin, Texas, and many other relatives and friends too numerous to mention.
