Mary Addie Swaw Atkins, age 94, of Southside passed away Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Gateway Medical Center. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. A Celebration of life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, November 26, 2013 at Sykes Funeral Home with Brother Ken Andrews officiating. The family will receive friends from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 25, 2013 and 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow at Rye's Chapel Cemetery.
Mary entered this life on June 13, 1919 in Montgomery County, daughter of the late Robert Lee Herrell and Mary Lady Christy Herrell. She was also preceded in death by husbands, Alex Elben Swaw (27 years), Archie Lee Atkins (37 years), her son, Carl Edward Swaw, two brothers, five sisters and a great-grandson.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother and caretaker of many others during her life. She was a longtime and faithful member of Gray's Chapel Church of the Nazarene.
Her survivors include one sister, Marie Mayfield, of Clarksville and her children, Allen (Barbara Ann) Swaw of Southside, Frances (Cecil) Travis of Cunningham and Mike (Lucille) Newman of Cumberland Furnace. Mary was blessed to be "Granny" to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Family and Friends.
