Martin Livingston

Martin Daniel Livingston, 68, died November 3, 2017, at Tennova Health Care Center. He was born June 27, 1949, in Portland, Maine, the son of Martin L. and Martha M. Livingston.
Martin was a military “brat” who spent his youth at various military bases throughout the U.S., Europe, and Asia. After graduating from high school in the Phillipines, he earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees from Austin Peay State University. Staying in Clarksville, for many years he lectured in history at Ft. Campbell for both Austin Peay and Hopkinsville Community College. Throughout his life, Martin read extensively and became very knowledgeable and enthusiastic about military history; he had in-depth knowledge of weaponry, battles, war time strategies, as well as biographies of generals and Presidents.
An only child and life time bachelor, Martin focused on his parents, his fraternity brothers, his many cousins, and a small circle of other friends. He loved coming to Maine each summer where he could visit his parents’ graves and wander around coastal tourist traps where he would purchase tee shirts and Christmas ornaments decorated with lobsters and sailboats for his Tennessee friends.
Surviving Martin are his longtime friends and housemates, Patricia Johnson of Clarksville and Lillian Slobig-Carrell of Crossville, whom he affectionately called “daughter”. Remaining Texas cousins include: Pauline Lawson and husband Dean; Ann Stell and husband Melton; John Moore and wife Robin; Jamie Stanford and husband Jimmy; Michael Moore and wife Linda; Nancy Sillers; and Kim Moore. Surviving Maine relatives include an aunt, Ruth M. Barker and several more cousins: Joseph Sala and wife Blair; John Sala and wife Shelley Ames; Peter Sala; and Martha Sala. In addition to his parents, Martin was predeceased by a Texas cousin, Dennis Moore.
Visiting hours will be on Sunday, November 12, from 1:00 PM to 3:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home with a brief service to begin at 3:00 PM.
Martin will be buried next to his parents in Prospect Harbor, Maine where there will be a graveside service next summer.
