Margie Ann Suiter Skinner, age 81 of Clarksville, TN, went home to be with her Lord and Savior May 30, 2014.
A funeral service will be held on Sunday, June 1, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Pastor Bryan Baggett officiating. Burial will follow in the Riverview Cemetery. Visitation will be Saturday, May 31, 2014 from 4-8 p.m. at Sykes Funeral Home and Sunday, June 1, 2014 from 1 p.m until time of service at the funeral home.
Margie is survived by her husband of 58 years George R. Skinner, two sons, Timothy R. Skinner of Clarksville, TN and Phillip A. Skinner of Newnan, GA, grandson, Auman Graham Skinner of Newnan, GA, sister, Francis Weatherford of Cunningham, TN, and four fond nieces and nephews, Connie Harris (Sidney), Barbra Skinner Myers, Benny Skinner (Sylvia) and Ricky Skinner (Debbie).
Margie was born September 22, 1932 in Montgomery County to the late William Suiter and Dora Gafford Suiter. She is now reunited with her parents, along with her best friend, Aunt Audrey Gafford Rose.
As her children grew, she began working outside the home in pre-schools and church daycares teaching and caring for other's children. According to Margie, her greatest and most rewarding career was being wife, mother, and homemaker. She was devoted to her children and grandson, and they to her. She never turned down an opportunity to prepare and share a good meal with family and friends and always found room for one more at her table; counting calories was not allowed. After an illness left her less active, she enjoyed sunny days on her porch admiring the flower gardens she tended for many years.
Margie believed in the goodness of people, weekly church attendance, helping others in need, and enjoying life's simple treasures. She enjoyed singing the old hymns more than the new, played a mean hand of Rook, preached humility and compassion, and maintained a quick wit. According to her grandson, she made the best scratch buttermilk biscuits and chocolate fudge pie in the South.
A special thank you to the members of Bible Baptist Church, where Margie was a long time faithful member, and Warfield Blvd. Church of Christ for their prayers, visits, and words of encouragement during Margie's last months with us. In lieu of flowers, attending church with a friend this Sunday would be an appropriate and appreciated way to celebrate her life, love and faith. Family and Friends will be Pallbearers.
