Major (Ret.) Charles Edmond Dewese, age 80 of Southside, TN passed away Sunday, June 7, 2015 at his residence after an extended battle with Leukemia. He was diagnosed with this disease 6 years ago and recently was placed under the care of AseraCare Hospice. He fought a good fight but now has finished the course. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
The funeral service will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Jon Justice and Mr. Dallas Thacker officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, June 9, 2015 and 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Wednesday, June 10, 2015 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full military honors.
Mr. Dewese was born August 18, 1934 in Huntersville, NC to the late Earl Isaiah and Alma Kerley Dewese.
He was a proud veteran of the US Army having attained the rank of Major. He served 2 tours in Viet Nam and received the following commendations and medals: Distinguished Flying Cross, 2 Bronze Star Medals, Purple Heart, Meritorious Service Medal, 9 Air Medals, Army Commendation Medal, National Defense Medal, Master Parachutist Badge and Combat Infantryman Badge. He was also a Financial Advisor and had an ardent love for farming which he put his heart and soul into.
He was a loving and devoted husband, father, grandfather, a member of Hilldale Baptist Church and attended Covenant Free Will Baptist Church.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Juanita Cofer Dewese; children, Charles D. Dewese, Rodney L. (Jami) Dewese, Thomas E. (Judy) Dewese, Katina R. (Joe) Gibbons, David M. (Tracy) Dewese; grandchildren, Clinton Dewese, Dawson Dewese, Elijah Gibbons, Dakota Dewese, Charles Gibbons, Preston Gibbons, Zachary Gibbons, Thomas Dewese, Savana Gibbons, Charles Mancini, Justin Steward, Kayla Dewese, Andrew Dever; siblings, Helen Flowe Ferrell, Linda Kay (Steve) Caldwell and Terry (Rebecca) Dewese.
Members of the Military will serve as pallbearers.
