MAJ Thomas Jefferson Bynum, ARMY (Ret), age 82, of Clarksville, TN, passed away on October 15, 2024. He was born on July 21, 1942, in McAlester, OK.
Thomas, affectionately known as TJ, retired from the United States Army. During his successful 20+ year career he served 6 campaign phases in Vietnam and rose to the ranks of Major. He earned several meritorious awards including: a Purple Heart, an Air Medal 2-25th Award, an Army Commendation Medal 1ST OLC, and a Meritorious Service Medal. After retirement, TJ was as an agent for Boston Mutual Life Insurance and was a member of Clarksville Association of Life Underwriters where he served in many positions including President. In his spare time, TJ enjoyed woodworking, showing his walking horses, restoring antique furniture, and being a member of the Single Action Shooting Society.
TJ is preceded in death by his father, William Thomas Bynum and mother, Opal Snowder Robison. He is survived by his loving wife, Jean Langhammer Bynum; children: Deborah (Jack) Luckey, Jeff "JT" (Kim) Bynum, Dana (Rudy) Johnson, James (Susan) Grimes, Lisa (Matt) Baker, and Jeff (Shannen) Grimes; 13 grandchildren; and 3 great-grandchildren.
A Celebration of Life service will be held by the family at a later date.
