Mabel Smith

Mabel Herndon Smith of Clarksville passed away at the age of 97 at her home on Dec. 30, 2015.  Mrs. Smith was born on October 12, 1918, the daughter of Thomas and Ina Herndon of Shiloh.  She was the third oldest of eight children, all of whom have preceded her in death.  She was also preceded in death by her husband, John Herman Smith, Sr. in 2003 and her oldest son, John Herman “Butch” Smith in 2007.

Survivors include one son, Howell Herndon Smith of Clarksville and one daughter, Shearon Smith Horton of Austin, Texas, two grandchildren, Kenneth Dean Smith of Gracey, Ky. And Cheryl Ann Crutcher of Clarksville, four great grandchildren, Joseph Allen Miller, Marcy Dawn Smith, Sydney Madison Crutcher, and Kristin Blaire Mannon, one great grandchild, Brynleigh Rose Mannon, and numerous nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the American Heart Assocation.

Mrs. Smith attended Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church and was in the past an active member of the Sunnyview Home Demonstration Club.  She was widely known as an excellent cook and seamstress, a tremendous supporter of her husband in his work and a devoted mother to her three children.

Funeral services will be Saturday January 2, 2016, 11:00 am at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel.  Burial at Resthaven Memorial Gardens will follow the services.  Visitation will be from 9:00 am until the service hour at 11:00 am.
