Louise Mayfield

Louise Cochran Mayfield, 88, of Clarksville, TN passed away January 30, 2016. Born in Fort Myers, FL in 1928 to Roy and Beatrice Cochran, Louise attended Wesleyan College in Macon, GA and later the University of Florida in Gainesville. Talented in many areas, Louise taught 4th grade at Lizella Elementary, worked in the library at Austin Peay State University, and kept books for many years for Howard King Contractors. Her greatest joys, however, were her family and friends, and it was not unusual for her to introduce herself to people around town and proudly show them photos of her grandchildren. A loving wife, mother, and grandmother, Louise served many roles in Church Women United through Hilldale United Methodist Church, played piano and upright bass throughout her life, and supported many students—her “other children”—at both Mercer and Austin Peay State Universities. She is preceded in death by her parents, her three brothers Nash, Jack, and Billy Cochran, and her husband, Melburn Mayfield. She is survived by her son, Nash Mayfield (Jenny) of Macon, GA, and eight grandchildren: Marika, Linnea, and Alden Mayfield of Toronto and Estonia, and Hannah, Owen, Harper Rose, Hailey, and Olivia Mayfield of Macon, GA. Services for Louise Cochran Mayfield will be held at 2 pm, Monday, February 1, 2016 at Hilldale United Methodist Church, 1751 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN. The family will receive visitors at the church one hour prior to the services.
