Louisa Morrison

Funeral Services for Louisa Hewitt Morrison age 88, will be Tuesday Feb. 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at Madison St. United Methodist Church Chapel, with Associate Pastors Rev. Laurie Hynson and Rev. Lisa Martin officiating. Burial will follow in the Greenwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday Feb. 22, 2016 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sykes Funeral Home and Tuesday from 10:00 am until the time of service at the Madison St. UMC chapel.

Louisa passed away Friday, February 19, 2016 at her residence.  She was born October 9, 1927 in Cheatham County Tennessee to the late Holland and Ruth Hewitt. She was a member of Madison Street United Methodist Church which she dearly loved. Louisa graduated from Cheatham County Central High School and Austin Peay State University. Louisa enjoyed a career in education and retired from the Clarksville-Montgomery County School system after teaching elementary school for 41 years. Louisa had great joy in reminiscing about past students and fellow educators and telling stories about her early teaching days at Palmyra School and Roosevelt School.  Along with many educational organizations during her career she was a member of the Montgomery County Agriculture Extension Service Family & Community Education Club. Louisa was a member of the Wally Bayam Caravan Club International and after her retirement traveled with her husband in their Airstream camper across the United States, Canada and Mexico. She enjoyed being a "snow bird" during the winter months and spent that time in Arizona. Many friends were made along the way. Louisa also made many lifelong friends by attending yearly Navy Reunions with her husband's shipmates and spouses that they stayed in touch with over the years.

Louisa took great pride in her family and loved them dearly. She is preceded in death by her husband of 52 years, Jesse Morrison, sister; Jean Lilley, brother; Edward Hewitt, and grandson Kyle Weatherford.

Survivors include daughters; Jackie (Henry) Davis, Carol (Greg) Taylor, grandsons; Derrick Davis and Corey (Jordan) Davis, granddaughters; Jessica (Justin) Humphrey and Katie (Matt) Norfleet, great-grandchildren; Kailee, Keegan, Emery and Drennan, sisters; Grace Cushman, Kay (Wayne) Melton, Faye (Benny) Kirby, a brother; Bailey (Ann) Hewitt and her beloved yorkie dog; Ginger.

Pallbearers will be Jimmy Cushman, Tim Kirby, Benny Kirby, Mark Melton, Wayne Melton, Henry Davis, and Greg Taylor.

The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers who were so dedicated to her care during the last few years.

In lieu of flowers memorials contributions may be made to the Madison Street United Methodist Church Memorial Garden at 319 Madison Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
