Leslie Huestion Mathews, age 94, of Clarksville, TN departed this life Wednesday, May 13, 2015 surrounded by his loving family. Sykes Funeral Home has the honor of handling arrangements. Funeral services will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 16, 2014 at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Dr. Larry Robertson officiating. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery. Pallbearers will be L.D. Black, Chris Hembree, Michael Davis, Jr., Matthew Davis, Nic Hadden, and Brad Pickering. Honorary pallbearers will be Keith Davis and Nate Elliott. The family will receive friends on Friday, May 15 from 4:00 pm to 8:00 pm at Sykes Funeral Home and again on Saturday, May 16 from 9:00 am until the hour of service.
Leslie was born son of Omer and Flossie Mathews on January 1, 1921 in Clarksville, TN. He was a retired independent painting contractor, a Red-Cross certified lifeguard, an avid fisherman,a member of Hilldale Baptist Church and a wonderful husband, daddy, and papa.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his brothers, J.C. Mathews and Raymond Mathews; granddaughter, Lucy Hembree and great-grandson, Zachary.
He is survived by his loving wife of almost 64 years, Dorothy Smith Mathews; daughters, Rickie (Bill) Beatty, Jackie (Darry) Winfree, Debbie (Larry) Gupton, Donna (B.L.) Hadden; grandchildren, Chris Hembree, Michael (Nerissa) Davis, Jr., Matt Davis, Nic Hadden, Leslie Elloit, Denise (Ric) White, Elizabeth (Jared) Hadden-McGuire, Olivia (Christopher) Trost; great-grandchildren, Bradley, Keith, Nathan, Daylon, Alex, Kayla, Cherry Lee, Katie, Lacy; great-great-grandchildren, Alex and Deamon.
