Graveside services for Bill Jones, age 84 of Clarksville, will be Friday, September 30, 2016 at 1:30 PM at Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Dr. Felts Dent will officiate. The family will receive friends on Friday, September 30, 2016 from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home.
Bill passed away on Tuesday, September 27, 2016 at his residence. He was born on February 25, 1932 in Southside, TN to Andrew and Ada Jones. Bill was a member of First Baptist Church in Clarksville, volunteered for Loaves and Fishes, was a Marshall at Mason Rudolph Golf Course, member of the Trigg County Civitans Club, enjoyed farming and was an avid gardener. Along with being a long time football and soccer official in Kentucky, he was also the founder of the Babe Ruth Baseball League in Trigg County. Bill was a graduate of Trigg County High School, Murray State University and The University of Florida. He served in the United States Army and was a part of the Army Security Agency. He was the owner of Cadiz Hardware Store, he started his career as a manager for W.T. Grant Company, was a school teacher and worked for Buck Contractors.
In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Royce, foster father, Eddie Major, and five brothers and one sister.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Betty J. Jones, foster mother, Lucille Major, brother, Andrew Jones, Jr., one foster brother and three foster sisters, children; Dennis (Vinnie) Jones, Phoebe (Pat) Venable, grandchildren; Samuel Jones, Seth Huling, Luke Venable, and Chantilly Kashin, great-grandchild, Zayne Kent.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pat Summitt Foundation for the cure of Alzheimer's disease.
