1st Sgt. ( E-8) Ret, John E. Brown, age 82 of Clarksville, passed away September 12, 2013. Funeral services for Mr. Brown will be 12:30 Saturday, September 14, 2013 at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Ray Carter and Bro. Ed Manners officiating. Burial will follow in Resthaven Memorial Gardens. Family will receive friends on Friday, September 13, 2013 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm and again on Saturday beginning at 11:30 am until the hour of service.

Mr. Brown was born in Wake Forest, NC on September 21, 1930 to the late Julian and Mittie Reynolds Brown. He served his country in the United States Navy for 3 years. He continued to serve and retired with 21 years of service with the United States Army. He then worked in civil service until his retirement. Mr. Brown was a member of Kirkwood Baptist Church, the Lions Club, and a 32nd Degree Mason.

In addition to his parents John was preceded in death by his daughter, Dorothy Herald; sisters, Katherine Carter, Nancy Garner, Sally Inman; brothers, Julian Brown and Nathaniel Brown.

Mr. Brown is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Ruby Hester Chester Brown; children, John (Sue) Chester of Clarksville, Wayne Chester of Dallas, TX, Faye (Charles) Hand of Clarksville, Frances (Herbert) Stanley of Clarksville, Virginia (Donald) Young of Paris, IL, Patricia (Robert) Payne of Cary, NC; a niece raised as their own, Beverly (Darrell) Cravath; 18 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren and 3 great-great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers the family requests memorials be made to Kirkwood Baptist Church, 3400 Kirkwood Rd., Clarksville, TN 37043.
