Memorial services for James Franklin Smith, age 80 of Clarksville, will be Friday, Jan 15, 2016, 11:00 AM at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel. Jim passed away on Monday, Jan 11, 2016 at Gateway Medical Center. He was born on July 15, 1935 in Nashville, TN to Eugene and Goldie Mai Smith. He grew up in a farming family and went on to join the National Guard where he served 8 years.In 1978 he married the love of his life, Patricia Ann Vinson. Together they raised two daughters, Letisha and Misty Dawn. While in the National Guard, Jim developed a knack for working on air conditioners, and turned that into a civilian career. After several years of installing/repairing Air Conditioners in Manchester, TN he took a sales position with Associated Equipment in Mobile, AL. In 1999, Jim relocated to Savannah, GA to be closer to his grandchildren and later moved with them to Clarksville, TN. Jim enjoyed dove hunting, fishing and riding his Harley in his younger years. In retirement, he enjoyed Alabama football and most of all, spending time with his adoring grandchildren. He was a loving husband, patient father, and dearly devoted grandfather. He was a master of shenanigans and took great joy in making people laugh. He is survived by his wife, Patricia Smith; his daughters, Letisha Mahaffa and Misty Dawn Pugh (John David Pugh); his grandchildren, Splendid Dawn and Story Dae and Walter Mason Pugh.
