Jim was born in Stewart County, Tennessee on November 13, 1944 to James T. Burkhart and Thelma Louise Dishong. He grew up in Hopkinsville, Kentucky. His work career was spent at the Trane Manufacturing Plant where his talent for working with machinery was put to good use. It was during those early years in Clarksville that a friend introduced him to the girl he soon married, LaVerne Landrum. Over the next fifty years he and LaVerne worked together to build a good life as they raised their son and dealt with life's ups and downs as equal partners.
Jim was a devoted husband and father and a caring friend. There was nothing he loved more than to share
Jim is survived by his wife of fifty years, LaVerne Landrum Burkhart, son, Brian Keith Burkhart (wife, Stephanie) of Indianapolis, grandson, Zachary Mullins, 2 sisters, 3 brothers, and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at 11 o'clock on Thursday, May 17, 2018 at Sykes Funeral Home in Clarksville. The family will greet visitors one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in Jim's memory may be made to the Alzheimer's Foundation of America (alzfdn.org).
