James Eli Ashby, age 95, formerly of Clarksville, died Thursday, March 31, 2011 at Mitchell-Hollinsworth Nursing Home, Florence, AL. The funeral will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, 2011 at Hopewell Baptist Church in the Cunningham community. Burial will follow at the Hopewell Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1 p.m. until the hour of service at the church. Mr. Ashby was born July 22, 1915, he was an ordained minister and pastored Hiview and Crossland Avenue Baptist Churches.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Jessee H. Ashby and Maude Pemberton Ashby, as well as his wife, Ruby Croft Ashby and his daughter, Paula Ashby Quarles.
Survivors include his son, Victor Eli Ashby; five grandchildren and fifteen great-grandchildren.
