A graveside service for Erle Matthew Butts, age 85, of Clarksville, will be Thursday, May 13, 2021 at 2:00 PM in the chapel at Resthaven Memorial Gardens with Pastor Garrette Milliken officiating. Erle died Monday, May 10, 2021 at Houston County Community Hospital.
Erle was born June 15, 1935 in Stewart County, TN, to Arnold Matthew Butts and Laura Blanch Lewis Butts. He was a member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church. Erle was a licensed surveyor in Clarksville for over 43 ½ years. He began his career as an employee at King Engineers where he worked for over 20 years before purchasing the company; he worked the next 23 years as the owner of King Engineers, Inc, before retiring. Erle proudly served in the Army National Guard of Tennessee and Army Reserves for nine years, achieving the rank of SFC, and earning an honorable discharge.
In addition to his parents, Erle is preceded in death by his wife of over 56 years, Lela Jewel Bogard Butts; brother, Adrian L. Butts; and grandson, Jordan Victor Butts. Erle is survived by sons, Kenneth M. (Kim) Butts, and V. Todd (Linda) Butts; brother, Wayne (Carolyn) Butts; grandchildren, Justin Todd Butts, Matthew Kyle (Kacy) Butts, Mackenzie Lynn (Jesse) Matthews, Ethan McKay Butts, Michael J. Kane, and Bobby Kane; great-grandchildren, Amryn Marie Kane and Weston Scott Kane.
The family would like to thank all of Erle's caregivers during his illness: Gwen Mason, who became his best buddy and kept him on his toes with researching topics for their conversations; all of the ladies of Tennessee Quality Care Hospice, especially Whitney, Kim, Leanne, Kaeta, and Lanie. Pastor Garrette for his spiritual guidance and company. All of you quickly became members of our family and Erle expressed his thanks and gratitude daily. We will forever be in your debt for helping us take care of Granddaddy.
Grandchildren will serve as Pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital or The Salvation Army, Clarksville TN.
