Elma Bumpus McGhee Lane, 92, Clarksville, died Saturday, September 11, 2010, at Spring Meadows Health Care.
The funeral will be held at 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Sykes Funeral Home with Rev. Richard Wesley officiating.
Burial will be in Martha's Chapel Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4:00 to 8:00 P.M. Tuesday and from 12:00 to 2:00 P.M. Wednesday at Sykes Funeral Home.
Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Lane is survived by her daughter, Nora McGhee Stafford (Roger) of Harker Heights, TX; two brothers, Lonnie Bumpus (Doris) of Cunningham and Jack Bumpus (Sydney) of Clarksville; four grandchildren, Tami Bigelow Kwiatkowski (Steve) of Perrysburg, OH, Ginger Bigelow Cook (John) of Toledo, OH, Cheri Bigelow Hanudel (Paul) of Oregon, OH, and Adam Bigelow (Heather) of Perrysburg, OH; six great grandchildren, and one great great grandchild.
Many will remember Mrs. Lane as the manager of the lunch counter at Woolworth in downtown Clarksville for many years or later as a messenger at Memorial Hospital. She worked hard at both jobs and enjoyed them, especially the people she worked with. Outgoing and cheerful, she made friends wherever she went. She had a sunny disposition and a delightful sense of humor.
Mrs. Lane was a member of Martha's Chapel United Methodist Church and a former member of Forest Street United Methodist Church. She was called the Poet Laurete of Martha's Chapel and enjoyed writing rhymes about all the members of her church. She was devoted to her faith, her family, her friends, and her work.
She was preceded in death by her parents Dudley and Mai Dunlavy Bumpus; her daughter Mary Virginia Bigelow Hartley; her two sisters, Lorene Bumpus and Nora Dee Bumpus Jackson; and many beloved aunts, uncles, and friends.
Family and Friends will serve as pallbearers.
The men of Martha's Chapel United Methodist Church will serve as honorary pallbearers.
