Elizabeth Broadbent Sleigh, 88 of Woodlawn went to be with the Lord Thursday, June 30, 2011 at her residence. Funeral Services will be held 3:00 P.M. Sunday at First Baptist Church of Woodlawn with Rev. Jody Kilburn, Rev. James Shepherd, and Tom McDonald officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 P.M. to 5:00 P.M. today at Sykes Funeral Home and 1:00 P.M. until hour of service at the church on Sunday. Burial will be in First Baptist Church of Woodlawn Cemetery. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Sleigh was born June 27, 1923 in Montgomery County to the late Charlie Woodson and Alphie Bowers Broadbent. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, John Broadbent, Howard Broadbent, Allen Broadbent, Austin Broadbent, Marian Allen, Hester Stephens and Mildred Allgood.
She was employed as a Teachers Aide with the Montgomery County School System for 16 years after raising her family and was a charter member of First Baptist Church of Woodlawn.
She is survived by her husband of 69 years, John Earl Sleigh; son, John E. (Ann) Sleigh, Jr.; daughters, Susan (Tom) McDonald, Tammie (Hank) Hemmrich; 5 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be David Sleigh, Charles Sleigh, Andrew Sawyer, Bradley Crowe, Chris Barnett, Mark Barnett, Don Atkins and Mike Atkins. Honorary Pallbearers will be, Woodson Broadbent and the Adult Women_
