Elfrey Eidson Key, age 90, of Clarksville passed away, Saturday, November 1, 2014 at Gateway Medical Center. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. The Funeral service will be at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, November 4, 2014 at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Paul Tramel and Rev. Sonny Kim officiating. Visitation will be 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Monday, November 3, 2014 and 10:00 a.m. until the hour of service on Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery with full Military Honors.
He was born May 30, 1924 to the late Hillman and Mattie Lewis Key. He was also preceded in death by brother, James E. "Ted" Key; sister, Margaret Ailene Allan; brothers-in-law, Windell Nicholson,Marion Allan and sister-in-law, Anna Glenn Key.
He was a member of Forest Street United Methodist Church, a truck driver for Frosty Morn for 25 years and served in the US Army during WWII. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Battle of the Bulge, Rhineland and Central Europe and received the following commendations; Good Conduct Medal, WWII Victory Medal Certificate of Merit, Bronze Star Medal, European African, Eastern Theater Ribbon with 5 Bronze Service Stars. He was a Medium tank Driver and an expert Colt 45 marksman.
Mr. Key is survived by his wife of 67 years, Frances Watson Key; sons, David E. (Candis S.) Key; daughter, Pat (Gary) Weatherford; brothers, Brandon (JoAnn) Key, Eddis Key; sister, Virginia Nicholson; sister-in-law, Bernice Key; grandchildren, Scott (Wendy) Key, Pamela (Steve) Bullock, Brent Weatherford and 6 great-grandchildren.
Military will serve as Pallbearers. Honorary pallbearers will be Scott Key, Brent Weatherford, Tommy Key, Christopher Key, Cory Bullock and Dalton Bullock.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to Forest Street United Methodist Church, 416 Church Street, Clarksville, TN 37040.
