Earl Groves

Henry Earl Groves, of Cunningham, went to be with his Lord on Saturday, April 15, 2017. Funeral service will be Wednesday, April 19, 2017 at 2:00 P.M. at Sykes Funeral Home. Rev. Lisa Payton and Bro. Bob Hargrove will officiate. Burial will follow at Rye's Chapel Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 18, 2017 from 4:00 P.M. to 7:00 P.M. at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel and again on Wednesday from 12:00 P.M. until the time of the service.
Earl was born on January 12, 1931 in Southside, Tennessee. He is the son of the late Cullom Bryant Groves and Idell Grimes Groves. He is preceded in death by wife, Nell Groves of 67 years; brother, Edward Groves; sister-in-laws, Lorene Jones, Annie Greene, Marie Batson; brother-in-laws, Gene Batson, Rueben Batson, Herman Batson, Leo Batson, Anderson Greene and Rogers Jones.
Earl was in the United States Marine Corps. He worked as a civilian employee for Clarksville Base and Fort Campbell where he retired after 35 years. He was a faithful member of Rye's Chapel United Methodist Church for over 50 years where he served as a Trustee. He was a longtime member of McAlister Masonic Lodge No. 402, F. & A.M.  Earl loved his family, his church, his grand dogs, Cheyenne and Chloe, meeting new people, being on the farm with his cows, walking and "scouting about" in the community. He never met a stranger.
Earl is survived by his loving daughter, Brenda Groves; sister, Dorothy Groves; brother, Ed Groves; sister-in-laws, Dorothy Groves, Francis Batson and Nell Batson; brother-in-law, David Batson and many nieces and nephews and great nieces and great nephews who loved him so much.
In lieu of flowers the family requests memorial donations be made to Rye's Chapel Cemetery, c/o Dorothy Groves, 224 Grays Chapel Road, Cunningham TN 37052.
