Dorothy Mathews

A Celebration of Life service will be held for Dorothy Mathews, age 85 of Clarksville, on Thursday, April 8, 2021 at 1:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home. Bro. Larry Robertson will officiate. Burial will follow in Greenwood Cemetery.  Dorothy was called to her heavenly home and welcomed by her family on April 3, 2021. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 7, 2021 from 4:00 PM until 7:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home and again on Thursday from 11:00 AM until the time of service.

Dorothy was born on May 17, 1935 in Montgomery County, TN to William and Effie Yarbrough Smith. She was a lifetime member of Hilldale Baptist Church where she taught children's Sunday School for over 40 years. Dorothy retired from Jay Garment Company and Clarksville Children's Public Library. She enjoyed spending time with her family and her dog Annie, and cooking.

In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband of 64 years, Leslie Mathews; daughter, Jackie Winfree; son-in-law, Larry Gupton; siblings: Jimmy, Lorraine, Daisy, Owen, Billy, and Comer; granddaughter, Lucy; and great-grandchildren, Zachary and Cherry Lee. Dorothy is survived by her daughters: Rickie (Bill) Beatty, Debbie Gupton, and Donna (B.L. Poindexter) Hadden; grandchildren: Chris, Leslie, Michael, Matthew, Denise, Elizabeth, Olivia, and Nic; great-grandchildren: Bradley, Keith, Nathan, Daylon, Alex, Kayla, Katie, and Lacy; great- great grandchildren: Alex, Deamien, Noah, AnnaLisa, AJ, Aria, and Gabby; beloved niece, Diana O'Connor; and her Spring Meadows Family.

The family would like to thank Aseracare Hospice for the care that was provided to Dorothy during this time.
