David John Whitens (Ret. SFC), 74, Clarksville, died Thursday, July 30, 2009, at his residence. A funeral mass will be held at 10:00 A.M. Tuesday at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church. Burial will be in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery West with full Military Honors. Mr. Whitens was born on March 28, 1935 in Hermansville, MI to the late George and Flora Savord Whitens. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, James Whitens and George Whitens. He was retired from the US Army having served 23 years. He also retired from Austin Peay State University where he also worked 23 years. He was a member of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and a member of the German American Edelweiss Club. He is survived by wife, Rosa Engel Whitens of Clarksville; son, Ralph (Janet) Whitens of Murfreesboro; brother John (Jannine) Whitens of Hermansville, MI; granddaughters, Jessica Whitens of Memphis and Samantha Whitens of OK. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the National Kidney Foundation, 2120 Crestmoor Road, Nashville, TN 37215.
