A Celebration of Life service for Mrs. Cheryl Jo Robinson Battle will be Thursday, November 14, 2019 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church on River Rd in Clarksville at 1:00 PM. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home. Cheryl was born on August 19, 1944 in Huntsville, Alabama to the late Felix and Pearl Robinson. Cheryl confessed Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age. She fell into eternal rest on November 6, 2019 while in the loving care of her family.
On December 24, 1961, she was united in holy matrimony to her husband Willie Eddie Battle, Jr. Cheryl grew up in Huntsville, Alabama where she attended William H. Council High School. Upon graduation in May 1962, she and Willie joined the Army and traveled the world living in numerous places in the US and abroad. In Europe they resided in Baumholder, Neu-Ulm, and Stuttgart, Germany. Stateside tours of duty included Fort Bragg, North Carolina, Fort Campbell, Kentucky, Fort Ord, California, Fort Carson, Colorado, Fort Knox, Kentucky, Fort Gordon, Georgia, Fort Eustis, Virginia and Aberdeen Proving Ground, Maryland. Before her retirement at Fort Campbell, Kentucky in 2005, she served over 25 years as a federal employee. Following her retirement, although she continued to pursue her passion for traveling abroad to such places as Tokyo, Rome, Florence, Venice and Pompei, she still found time for her other interests which included cooking, gardening, reading and puzzling.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Walter and Ophelia Otey, and aunts and uncles, Onezean Otey, Sr., Annie Davis, Louis Otey, Juanita Fletcher, Eunice Hunter, Alice Otey, and Olivia Davis; and a brother-in-law, Oscar Cleveland Battle, Sr.
She leaves to cherish her memory a devoted husband of 57 years CSM (Ret.) Willie E. Battle, Jr., a loving son MSG (Ret.) Willie E. Battle III, Clarksville, TN; five daughters: Olivia Nanette (COL (Ret.) Mark) Graham Arlington, VA, LTC (Ret.) Felicia Yvette (Clarence) Carter, Madison, AL, Dr. Alicia Lynette Battle, New Orleans, LA, CPT (USAR) Delicia Colette Battle, Huntsville, AL, Ophelia Wynette Battle, Clarksville, TN; six grandchildren: CPT William Anthony Battle, Colorado Springs, CO, Ophelia Colette Battle, New Orleans, LA, Olivia Yvette Battle, Brooklyn, NY, Chelsea Brianna Carter, Oxford, MS, Willie E. Battle IV, Chicago, IL, Cheryl Alicia Battle, Huntsville, AL; one brother-in-law Theophylus (Eloise) Battle, Huntsville, AL, and four sisters-in-laws: Mary Hambrick, Huntsville, AL, Cora (Ike) Peoples, Huntsville, AL, Helen Malone, Decatur, GA, Eva (James) Collier, Fayetteville, GA and numerous cousins, nieces, nephews, close loved ones and friends as well as her lifelong best friend, Mrs. Linda White, Huntsville, AL.
