A Celebration of Life service for Carrie Laverne Bateman, age 89, of Cunningham, TN, will be Tuesday, June 18, 2024 at 12:00PM at Sykes Funeral Home. Pastor William Gray will officiate. Burial will follow at McWhorter Cemetery where she will be laid to rest alongside her late husband, Rev. Billy Bateman. The family will receive friends Monday, June 17, 2024 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the funeral home and again on Tuesday from 10:00 AM until the time of service.
Carrie was born on July 14, 1934, in Cunningham, TN to Lloyd and Lizzy Conatser. She was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church and the epitome of a "Preacher's Wife". She shared her love of Jesus through her wisdom and beautiful singing. Carrie loved spending time with her family, visiting the Smoky Mountains, and quilting. She was also known to have the best chicken and dumplings south of the river.
In addition to her parents and husband, Carrie is preceded in death by her son, Doyle Bateman and siblings: Evelyn Harrison, Hazel Biter, Morgan Conatser, Lester Conatser, Sarah Dawson, Susie Alsobrooks, and Vernon Conatser. She is survived by her son, Jeff Bateman and his wife Emily; grandchildren: Chris and Josh Bateman, Erica Moss, and Bryan Bateman and his wife Liz; and great-grandchildren: Brandon, Logan, Alyssa, Cade, Maddox, Camden, Parker, Sawyer, Walker.
