Carl Edward Swaw, 73, passed away at his home on April 19, 2013.
A celebration of life will be held at 2pm on Monday, April 22 at Sykes Funeral home with Brother Ken Andrews officiating. Burial will follow at the Ryes Chapel cemetery. The family will receive friends from 3pm-8pm on Sunday and 10am until the hour of service Monday at the funeral home. A Masonic Service will be held on Sunday at 7:00 pm
Carl entered this life on September 21, 1939 in Montgomery County, son of the late Alex Swaw and Mary Swaw Atkins. He was retired from TVA. He was a faithful member of Gray's Chapel Church of the Nazarene and a member of McAlister's Masonic Lodge #402. He was also a member of the 3 Degrees Masonic Motorcycle Club who support the Child Advocate Center in Charlotte.
In addition to his Mother, survivors include his wife, Freda Swaw of Southside; a daughter, Denise Swaw of Taylor, Michigan; his sister, Frances Travis (Cecil) of Southside; brothers, Allen Swaw (Barbara Ann) of Southside and Mike Newman (Lucille) of Cumberland Furnace. His children by marriage include: Renee Nikonowicz (Walt), Trent Mullins (Amber), Crystal Allsbrooks (Calvin), Kevin Bailey (Sara); granddaughters Heather Hendrix and Kathy Bailey and two children who preceded him in death: Sharon Bailey and Ramona Williams. He was blessed to be Papa to many grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Carl was an avid sports enthusiast. Some of his greatest joys in life were to spend time with family and friends and riding his motorcycle with grandson Matthew Hendrix.
