Birdie Nell Groves, of Cunningham, went to her heavenly home on Thursday, August 11, 2016. Funeral service will be Sunday, August 14, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home . Rev. Lisa Payton and Rev. Bob Hargrove will officiate. Burial will follow in Rye's Chapel Cemetery.  The family will receive friends on Saturday, August 13, 2016 from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Sykes Funeral Home Chapel and again on Sunday from 12:00 PM until the time of service.

Nell was born on May 30  in Liverworth, TN. She is the daughter of the late Arthur Lee Batson and Bessie Jones Batson. She was preceded in death by sisters, Lorene Jones and Annie Greene; brothers, Gene Batson, Reuben Batson, Herman Batson, and Leo Batson; sister-in-law, Marie Batson; brother-in-laws, Edward Groves, Anderson Greene and Rogers Jones.

Nell was a former employee of Acme Boot for several years. She was a faithful member of Rye's Chapel United Methodist Church for over 50 years. Nell loved her family, her granddogs, Cheyenne and Chloe, and her flowers. Her famous yellow cake with chocolate icing was a family favorite and loved by all in the community.

Nell is survived by her loving husband of nearly 67 years, Earl Groves; daughter, Brenda Groves; brother, David Batson; sister-in-laws, Francis Batson, Nell Batson, Dorothy "Dart" Groves and Dorothy Groves; brother-in-law, Edgar Groves and many nieces and nephews and great-nieces and great-nephews who loved her so much.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Rye's Chapel United Methodist Church, c/o Dorothy Groves 224 Grays Chapel Road, Cunningham TN, 37052.
