Barbara Britt

A Celebration of Life Service for Barbara Sue Batson Britt, 81, of Cunningham, TN will be held at 1:00 PM at Hilldale Baptist Church (2001 Madison St, Clarksville, TN 37043) with Dr. Larry Robertson and Bro. Bryan Baggett officiating. Burial will follow at Batson Cemetery. Visitation will be on Monday from 10:00 AM until the hour of service at Hilldale Baptist Church. Pallbearers will be Barry Batson, Michael Batson, Ben Britt, Donavan McIntosh, Greyson Hawkins, and Charles Baggett. 

Barbara passed away on December 18, 2024. She was born on September 22, 1943 in Montgomery Country, daughter to the late Billie Z Batson and Amy Dunn Batson. She was a lifelong resident of Montgomery County. Barbara was a graduate of Montgomery Central High School, where she then went on to attend Austin Peay State University. She is preceded in death by her husband James M. Britt whom she married on July 1st, 1962. 

Barbara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a lover of children and enjoyed providing for their welfare and care. She and James served as foster parents to 52 children and held many offices for the Foster Care program, local and state. In addition, she served in local and state positions as a member of the Montgomery County School Board for 12 years.

She loved and was a dedicated member of Hilldale Baptist Church of Clarksville, Tennessee. There she served as a Sunday School teacher and was a member of the choir.

 In addition to her husband Barbara is preceded in death by her father, mother, brother Donald Gene Batson, and sister Mary Lois Batson Baggett. She is survived by her two sons Jeffery Madison Britt (Connie), Walter Linn Britt; two daughters Sandra Leigh Britt Cortez (Mike), Kendra Jo Britt Hawkins (Rex); Eight grandchildren Ben Madison Britt (Carrie), Rebekah Ann Britt Hargrove (Ryan), Kourtnee Jo Candler Taylor (Bradley), Donavan Madison McIntosh (Ashley), Morgan Leigh McIntosh, Madison Grace Hawkins, Lauren Nicole Britt, and Greyson Ezell Hawkins; 6 great grandchildren Caroline Sue Britt, Sarah Lynn Britt, Evelyn Ann Hargrove, Charley Kate Hargrove, Bradlynn Barbara Taylor, and Batson James Taylor; brother Larry Jo Batson (Tennie); brother-in-law Charles Baggett; sister-in-law Mary Helen Mccaslin Batson; a dear friend Sally Ussery Lee; and several nieces and nephews. 

In keeping with Barbara’s love for Christmas the family requests that friends and family wear holiday attire.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks you to bring a Christmas ornament to decorate her memorial tree or contributions may be made to Batson Cemetery, 1225 McWhorter Road Cunningham, TN 37052.
