Sgt. (Ret) Edward M. Shafer, age 73 of Cunningham passed away Thursday, January 2, 2014 at Gateway Medical Center. Sykes Funeral Home & Crematory is in charge of arrangements. The Funeral Service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2014 at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church with Rev. Gregory Jones officiating. Visitation will be 2:00 pm to 5:00 pm on Sunday, January 5, 2014 at Sykes Funeral Home and 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. on Monday at the church. Burial will follow at Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church Cemetery.
He was born June 17, 1940 in IN to the late Clarence Louie and Mattie Buckheister Shafer. He was retired from the US Army with 20 years honorable service. He served honorably three tours in Viet Nam. He was recipient of the Bronze Service Medal. He was also retired from the Federal Government with 20 year's service in Procurement and Personnel. He was an Ordained Elder of the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church and a member of the Masonic Lodge (KY).
He is survived by his wife, Pauletta Caudill Shafer; son, Robert Louis & Kari Jane Shafer; step-son, Robert & Sherri Brown; daughters, Sandra Kay Cottrell, Melinda Belle & James A. Bondurant, Belinda Jane & Richard Saunders, Amanda Shafer; step-daughter, Jenny Lou Brown; brother, Gerry & Kathleen Shafer; grandchildren, Allen, Miranda, Richard, Erin, Jennifer, James, George, Cassidie, Bo, Christal, John, Dallas, Dusty, Destinee, Vinnie, Bradley, Joseph, Jacob and 6 great-grandchildren.
Military will serve as pallbearers.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Shiloh Cumberland Presbyterian Church Children's Youth Fund.
